Three Greek islands, Paros, Thassos and Ios, are included in Business Insider’s Spanish edition of the 100 most beautiful and least tourist islands around the world.
Business Insider reached out to travel bloggers and major travel companies such as HotelTonight, Secret Escapes, Topdeck Travel, PK’s List and TravelSupermarket to compile its list of the 100 least known but most impressive islands.
The extensive list includes everything from Palawan in the Philippines and Ko Lipe in Thailand to Ile de Ré in France, all islands that, apart from their beauty, stand out for their authentic character.
Referring to Paros, Emma Leggat, communications director at HotelTonight, said: “The secluded beaches, beautiful hills and whitewashed villages of this island provide the perfect backdrop for those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere than Mykonos offers. Explore its charming villages and indulge in the culinary richness of its renowned restaurants.”
For her part, Renee Sundgren, head of social media at Topdeck Travel, said that Paros is not getting the attention it deserves. “With its unparalleled natural beauty and stunning beaches, it’s a place to visit. Ideal for young travellers and couples, Paros offers everything you would expect from a Cycladic island: blue-domed churches, dazzling whitewashed villages and magical sunsets,” he stressed.
As for accommodation, Ms Leggat suggested the Yria Boutique Hotel & Spa or the Lilly Residence Boutique Suites.
“While the Mamma Mia movie hits have attracted travellers to Greece, Thassos brings together the best elements of the country, but without the tourist crowds,” said Reigo Eljas, lastminute.coms director for Thassos. He added: “Known as the ‘Emerald of the Aegean’, you’ll enjoy some truly stunning scenery and beaches. The island has plenty of quaint tavernas to relax in while you enjoy your food and drink. It’s really, really Greek.”
According to him, Thassos is also great for water sports, including: scuba diving, paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing.
As for how to get to the island, Mr Eljas suggested flying to Kavala and then enjoying a wonderful 30-minute ferry ride from there.
Speaking about Ios, Business Insider editor-in-chief Ali Millington, who has visited Greece’s most popular tourist spots such as Santorini and Athens, said: “This is an amazing,lesser-known destination among the Greek islands. It has beautiful beaches, but the atmosphere and nightlife is what attracts travellers.”
For those in the mood to party, he said, the best option is the Far Out Beach Club.
