The Environment and Spatial Planning Committee of the Region of Crete, chaired by the Vice-Regional Head of Environment, Mr.Nikos Xylouris, gave a positive opinion on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the new airport in Kastelli and other projects in hotels.
In particular, the Commission gave a positive opinion on the following projects:
– Supplementary Sheet of the EIA for the amendment of the Environmental Conditions Approval Decision for the New Heraklion International Airport in Kastelli, Crete, and its road connections, due to the update of the final design, with “Heraklion International Airport of Crete S.A.
– Used Battery Storage Unit in the area of Finikia, Heraklion, of the company KATHERIS SA.
– Hotel with 224 beds in the area of Ano Sarantari or Pefana, in the Municipality of Hersonissos, P.E. Heraklion, by the company ‘KORI SA’.
– Amendment of the Environmental Conditions Approval Decision No. 45041/1476/29.09.2014 concerning a classic type hotel, five-star (5*) category, under the name “PILOT BEACH RESORT”, at the location “Kapselida” & “Haritou Lakkos”, D.E. Georgioupolis, Municipality of Apokoronas, P.E. Chania, Region of Crete, owned by “ASTERAS S.A.”
– Expansion and legalization of existing Hotel accommodation in a 5-star main type hotel with a total capacity of 160 beds, in the location “Avrakone”, Tersana area, D.E. Akrotiri, Municipality of Chania, P.E. Chania, P.E. Chania, with the project owner “VEMA S.A.”.
It is recalled that the new airport in Kastelli Heraklion is expected to enter into commercial operation in February 2027 and is an ambitious project, which will change the tourist and economic landscape of the island.
