Set-jetting in the spotlight: The Peloponnese among the cinematic destinations set to star in 2026

The year 2026 is expected to be a landmark for so-called set-jetting—travel inspired by film and television productions. According to Expedia Group’s annual Unpack ’26 report, 81% of Millennials and Gen Z say they choose destinations influenced by movies and TV series, turning set-jetting into a market that in the U.S. alone is estimated to reach $8 billion.

With more than half of travelers stating that their desire for this type of travel has increased, Expedia highlights the destinations set to take center stage thanks to major productions premiering this year and in 2026, while also suggesting hotels and experiences “straight out of the screen.”

Peloponnese, Greece

Inspired by: The Odyssey – Premiere: July 17, 2026

Suggested stays: Nido, Mar-Bella Collection • W Costa Navarino • Dreams Corfu Resort & Spa

The most anticipated production of 2026 is undoubtedly the film adaptation of The Odyssey, directed and produced by Christopher Nolan. Set against the striking landscapes of the Peloponnese—where much of the film unfolds—travelers are invited to create their own “Greek odyssey” through olive-oil tastings, diving, hiking, and immersive nature experiences.

Palawan, Philippines

Inspired by: The Last Resort – Premiere: February 2026

Suggested stays: Cauyan Island Resort • Pangulasian Island Resort • Lihim Resorts

This year’s romantic comedy is expected to bring the exotic paradise of Palawan into the spotlight, where the film was shot. Catamaran cruises, hidden lagoons, and the beaches of El Nido set the scene.

Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Inspired by:

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale

Wuthering Heights

Suggested stays: Esseborne Manor Hotel • Sandford Springs Hotel & Golf Club • Simonstone Hall • The Old Registry Haworth

The region enjoys a “double” cinematic spotlight, with fans of Downton Abbey and Wuthering Heights following filming locations across castles, museums, and lush landscapes.

Hawaii & Samoa (Polynesia)

Inspired by: Moana – Premiere: July 10, 2026

Suggested stays: Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa • The Kahala Hotel & Resort • Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea

Disney’s live-action adaptation is expected to boost demand in Hawaii and Samoa, featuring natural landscapes that have already made cinematic history.

Paris, France

Inspired by: Emily in Paris – New season: December 18, 2025

Suggested stays: Hotel Plaza Athénée • Le Meurice • Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat

“Emily” returns—and so does Paris—along with experiences such as croissant-making classes and guided tours of filming locations.

Dalmatian Coast – New Orleans – Barcelona

Inspired by: People We Meet on Vacation

Suggested stays: Hotel Monteleone (New Orleans) • Nobu Hotel Barcelona

From Croatia to Barcelona, Netflix fuels travel inspiration with road trips, jazz cruises, and culinary tours.

Wellington, New Zealand

Inspired by: Avatar: Fire and Ash

Suggested stays: Ohtel Wellington • Sofitel Wellington • The Intrepid Hotel

New Zealand continues to star in cinematic universes, with activities combining nature, gastronomy, and themed tours.

Hawaii – Italy – Thailand

Inspired by: The White Lotus – Season 3 (2025)

Suggested stays: San Domenico Palace, Taormina • Four Seasons Maui at Wailea • Rosewood Phuket

The ultimate set-jetting phenomenon, featuring luxury experiences—from Muay Thai in Thailand to dolphin watching in Maui.

Tuscany, Italy

Inspired by: Jay Kelly

Suggested stays: Monteverdi Tuscany • La Bandita Townhouse • ADLER Spa Resort THERMAE

Starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, the film enhances Tuscany’s allure with wine tourism and wellness experiences.

Los Angeles, USA

Inspired by: Nobody Wants This – Season 2

Suggested stays: The Garland • 1 Hotel West Hollywood

Romantic sunset helicopter flights and studio tours shape the city’s new cinematic narrative.

The meaning behind the journey

Set-jetting is no longer just about recreating scenes, but about seeking meaningful experiences—connecting culture, nature, and emotion with tourism. And in 2026, the screen will be the ultimate travel guide.
