The Greek repatriation flight from Dubai scheduled for today has been canceled

The repatriation flight for Greeks and their pets from Dubai, scheduled for Monday (16/3), has been canceled until further notice due to a fire that broke out early in the morning near the city’s international airport.

Specifically, according to information broadcast by ERT, the decision to postpone the flight was made due to a drone attack in the area near Dubai International Airport, which resulted in a fire.

It is recalled that the authorities of the United Arab Emirates had announced the temporary suspension of flights, following the outbreak of a fire in a fuel tank, in an “incident related to a drone”.

However, according to the latest announcement by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority via X, some flights from and to Dubai International Airport to selected destinations are gradually resuming after the temporary suspension imposed as a precautionary measure.

The Authority advises passengers to contact airlines for the latest flight information.

According to reports, Greeks returning to the country with their animals were notified to be at the airport by 11 am in order to complete the necessary veterinary and bureaucratic checks for the pets.

However, Aegean Airlines informed about the cancellation of the itinerary at the last minute, which has caused great disturbance among the participants, as there is no official timetable for when the trip will be rescheduled.

The special repatriation operation, symbolically named “Kivotos,” was designed to transport approximately 90 Greeks along with about a hundred pets from the United Arab Emirates to Greece, as most of them refused to abandon their animals and leave.

Currently, participants in the repatriation operation are waiting for an update from the relevant authorities on when the repatriation flight will finally take place.
