The Region of South Aegean is supporting legally the struggle of the islanders, against the Industrial Wind Parks.

The Regional Council of South Aegean decided, to exercise all the legal remedies for the support of the islanders who oppose the installation of industrial wind turbines on the islands of Andros, Paros, Naxos and Tinos on the recommendation of the Regional Governor George Hatzimarkou, at the meeting of the 22nd March 2019.

As Mr Chatzimarkos pointed out, the Region of the South Aegean is not opposed to the use of Renewable Energy Sources. However, it opposes the pharaonic type of Industrial Wind Parks ,that are totally incompatible with the scenery and the small size of the Cycladic islands when the wind turbine has a height of more than 100 meters, with obvious effects on the environment and the natural beauty of the island landscape.

The Local Authorities, the associations and organizations and the local communities of the islands are strongly reacting to the prospect of setting up Industrial Wind Parks and have already filed a complaint with the StE seeking the annulment of the relevant decision of Ministry of the Environment,Natural Environment and the Environment for the islands of Naxos, Paros, Tinos and Andros.

The Regional Council decided to continue the legal, moral and substantive support of the South Aegean Region to the legitimate request of the above four islands for the non-installation of wind turbines and the annulment of the relevant Ministerial Decision in order to prevent the risk of their environmental degradation due to increased interest in investments in the field of Renewable Energy in the islands.
