These are the travel choices of Greeks for the October 28th holiday

Passenger traffic is at the same high levels as last year in anticipation of the October 28 holiday, with international destinations in the AEGEAN network being high on the preferences of Greek travelers, who appear to be taking advantage of the opportunity for a four-day getaway.

International destinations that Greeks choose to spend October 28

According to Aegean’s bookings, the top 5 international destinations from Athens and Thessaloniki airports for the 28th holiday in 2025 are:

Stockholm Larnaca
Prague Brussels

Edinburgh Barcelona
Bilbao Frankfurt

One and a half weeks before the October 28 holiday, flights on the international network from the company’s largest base in Athens are at 95% capacity. Similar rates are recorded by the base in Thessaloniki, with flight occupancy rates exceeding 93%.

Travel from both Athens and Thessaloniki to international destinations is mostly observed on October 24 and 25. Expectedly, the return movement is expected to peak at both bases on October 28.

It is worth noting that the trend that has been recorded in recent years continues, with Greeks choosing to travel to and explore less “traditional” and prominent destinations, even new ones, such as Bilbao.

Domestic destinations based on travelers’ preferences for the October 28 holiday

According to Aegean’s bookings, the top 5 domestic destinations from Athens and Thessaloniki airports for the 28th holiday in 2025 are:

Domestic flights are showing satisfactory occupancy rates, especially considering that in recent years Greek travelers have traditionally chosen to take advantage of such holidays to travel abroad.

Specifically, from AEGEAN’s base at Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport. Venizelos” flight occupancy rates exceed 85%, with particularly high traffic on October 24 and 25. On October 28, the return of travelers is expected to peak with flights already nearing 90% capacity.

Thessaloniki residents are expected to follow suit, with the majority having already chosen to depart from the company’s second-largest base at Macedonia Airport on October 24, with flights showing a 95% occupancy rate. And in this specific case, the return is expected to take place on October 28, a day when occupancy exceeds 95%.

Travel destinations for last-minute getaways

Despite high occupancy rates, last-minute travelers can still find availability and plan their getaway for October 28th to international destinations such as Izmir, Malta, Riga, Zagreb, as well as AEGEAN’s two new destinations from Athens to Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh. Similarly, opportunities for availability on the domestic network are presented in destinations such as Mytilene, Chios, and Kos.
