A new survey by Sifo on behalf of TUI shows that more and more Swedes are planning to travel abroad next year than last year.
At the same time, the survey shows that many people have not yet booked their summer trip. This sets the stage for intense competition for last-minute travel this summer, according to TUI.
In the survey conducted by Kantar Media, 47% say they plan to travel abroad in the next twelve months – an increase compared to last year’s survey. Fewer Swedes also say they will not travel at all next year – 32% compared to 36% last year. Most say they plan to travel in July and next winter.
“The desire to travel is high after the long and cold spring, but Easter was late this year, which shifted the entire booking period. At the same time, we are seeing the pace of bookings increase every week. This is creating pressure for last places this summer, especially for popular destinations in July and August,” says Dian Martinez Valencia, TUI’s communications director.
In Sifo’s survey, half of those planning to travel in July and August say they have not yet booked their trip. Among those travelling in June, three out of four have already booked their holiday.
“From various regional airports, over 80% of travel for this summer is already booked and it can be difficult to find exactly the trip you want if you wait too long. Especially for classic summer destinations such as Cyprus, Crete and Mallorca,” adds Dian Martinez Valencia.
