Kikilias: We want the port of Piraeus to reflect its importance for tourism and connection with our islands
Shipping and Island Policy Minister Vassilis Kikilias said in a statement after the meeting that “we are making substantial investments in the port’s shipping side so that the 11.5 million visitors experience a modern, welcoming and safe environment. We want the port of Piraeus to reflect its importance for tourism and connectivity with our islands.I want to thank Mr. Su Xudong and the PPA management for their continued presence and cooperation. We would like to announce that in the coming weeks and by mid-June, we will proceed with the following investments.”
“They will involve specific areas within the port where cars and trucks can park to board and disembark ships. And all the safety rules inside the port of Piraeus. Free fresh water, in coolers for visitors and travelers. Chemical toilets. A special system for sorting and collecting garbage, in terms of recycling and cleanliness in the port. Deck rails, which have already been started and are being installed, along with special benches and dew challenge systems for those waiting for the ships. And whatever else is needed and required at times, in ‘waves’, so that our visitors to the port of Piraeus – where Cosco and PPA have made very significant investments – can feel and see these investments in the shipping part of the port as well,” the minister said.
For his part, PPA S.A. CEO Su Xudong said. After this meeting, I received very clear objectives from the Minister of Shipping, Vassilis Kikilias. And we are committed to continue to make efforts in the common interest of the Greek Citizens.”
