Costa Navarino was the proud host of the international golf event “Costa Navarino EAGLES Presidents Golf Cup”, which raised the amount of 750,000 Euros for charitable causes.
The tournament took place 9-12 November 2017 for the third time in Costa Navarino and gathered world-known artists including Anastacia, Rea Garvey and Til Schweiger, as well as prominent guests, among which Dr. Auma Obama, half-sister of the former President of the U.S.A, who has initiated the “Sauti Kuu Foundation” in Kenya.
The EΑGLES Charity Golf Club has demonstrated an exceptional charitable work over the past 24 years, attracting this year more than 400 guests, to celebrate the end of the golf season at Costa Navarino, and all for a good cause. The participants enjoyed the game with beautiful weather and stunning views at the destination’s signature golf courses, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course. It was the perfect ending to a great golf season, with unique experiences for the guests of The Westin Resort Costa Navarino and unforgettable events featuring world-known artists: Anastacia performed for a good cause, helping to raise money through the auction of personal items, supporting the Anastacia Fund at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Actor and director Τil Schweiger and singer Rea Garvey also supported the charitable causes close to their hearts, as did many others from the world of sports: current and former footballers including Christoph Metzelder, Ralf Rangnick, Franz Roth, tennis player Anke Huber, discus thrower and Olympic medalist Lars Riedel, and many more. Dr. Auma Obama received a check for 35,000 Euros for the “Sauti Kuu Foundation” that empowers young people in Kenya.
The President of EAGLES Charity Golf Club Frank Fleschenberg commented: “This is a magical place. We celebrated here our golf season finale on 2014 and 2015, but this year’s participations have surpassed every expectation”.
Achilles Constantakopoulos, Chairman & CEO of TEMES – Developers of Costa Navarino, welcomed guests and noted: “We are honored that Costa Navarino has been chosen for the 3rd time by the EAGLES Charity Golf Club, as the hosting destination of this prestigious international charity golf tournament. During the past decade, Costa Navarino has been committed to offering a world-class golf experience and our efforts have been rewarded by the trust of respectable partners like the EAGLES Charity Golf Club as well as a series of accolades, recently culminating in the prestigious distinction of “European Golf Resort of the Year 2017” by IAGTO“.
Anastacia: “I’m so happy about this support as it raises awareness about breast cancer, for which prevention and timely detection is the most important thing”.
“I’m here for a charity cause, because I like to help people and make a difference on this earth in whatever way I can. I’ve always liked Greece and found it to be very welcoming. Costa Navarino is a gorgeous place; it has everything you want and more.”
Dr. Auma Obama: “I’m extremely grateful for your continuous support. Until now, I’ve been able to achieve a lot with the money that has been raised. Right now we are completing an educational center for young people in East Kenya where they can receive vocational training”.
Til Schweiger: “It’s my third time at the EAGLES event. Only good can be done with the money raised and I have a lot of respect for the EAGLES members, as the people who are here are those who help, and not the ones who just talk”. About Costa Navarino: “It is a great place, I enjoy it and I would consider it as a location for my next film. It was actually after my first trip in Greece 30 years ago that I decided to become an actor”.
Many other prominent guests joined the charity event including music producer Thomas Stein, actresses Marie-Luise Marjan and Wolke Hegenbarth who received checks for 20,000 and 25,000 Euros for the organizations “Marie-Luise Marjan Foundation” and “Plan International” accordingly. Also present was the 22-times world boxing champion Sven Ottke, skier Tobias Angerer, footballers Krassimir Balakov, Karl Allgöwer and Stefan Reuter, as well as many guests from the world of business.
