The Ministry of Tourism has amended the Act “Participation in International Tourism Fairs 2025-2026,” increasing both the budget and the implementation timeline as part of the Sectoral Development Program “Ministry of Tourism 2021-2025.” The beneficiary of the Act is the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), which is responsible for the implementation of the program for the international promotion of the Greek tourism product.
According to the decision, the deadline for taking legal commitments for the subprojects of the Act is extended until August 27, 2026, in order to ensure their smooth and effective implementation. Concurrently, the economic object of the Act increases by 2 million euros, with the total public expenditure now amounting to 8.1 million euros, funded entirely by the National Development Program (NDP).
The natural object of the Act concerns the participation of the Greek National Tourism Organization in 42 international tourism exhibitions in the period 2025-2026, within the framework of the national tourism development policy. The goal is to strengthen Greece’s presence in international markets, with an emphasis on emerging and non-traditional markets, to promote the country as an attractive and competitive tourist destination, and to promote the Greek tourism product abroad.
The Act falls under the priority axis “Promoting tourism with emphasis on emerging and non-traditional markets” and is implemented in accordance with the current institutional and regulatory framework governing the operation and responsibilities of the Greek Tourism Organization. The start date of the Act has been set for February 26, 2025, while the end date is December 31, 2025, with the possibility of taking legal commitments extending, after the amendment, until the summer of 2026.
The program for participation in international exhibitions is a key tool of the national tourism strategy, as it enhances the country’s international visibility, supports the extroversion of Greek tourism, and contributes to the expansion of the visitor source markets. Through increased funding and an extended timeframe, the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization are seeking greater flexibility, better planning, and a more substantial presence for Greece in the international tourism environment.
