The latest travel trends for 2025 were presented by Dertour at the major tourism exhibition CMT in Sturgardt. The Greek islands top the lists of preferences of German tourists with Crete and Rhodes being “high”. But the island that looks set to make the difference for 2025 is Thassos, which has several pre-bookings already.
Sandra Windsheimer, Sales Director, reveals the trends for 2025 ahead of the CMT exhibition. In particular, demand for travel to Ireland and Scotland, as well as Norway and Finland, is particularly high,” says Windsheimer. Booking volumes for Bali and Zanzibar also increased. Holidays are no longer a privilege for many people, but are now among the top priorities. I often hear from my clients: I’m much happier going on holiday than buying a new car or a new sofa,” says Windsheimer. Especially in times of crisis, the desire for a relaxing break is high and many people would rather invest in beautiful memories than material goods.
A key priority for travellers is to make bookings based on value for money. The big savings can be achieved by reservation the holiday early. Visitors to DERTOUR, Meier’s World Travel and ITS, for example, benefit from early booking discounts of up to 45%. An all-inclusive holiday package also offers budget security, which is largely a key requirement, especially for families.
In addition to Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia, Greece is also one of the most popular destinations for tour operators. “Families want to spend their holidays on the Greek islands. Crete and Rhodes are very popular with them. However, we are also recording a lot of bookings for Thassos this year,” says Windsheimer. Greece’s northernmost island is known for its mild climate and beautiful sandy beaches. “Anyone who is familiar with it can also find cheap accommodation there,” says the travel expert, who – at least for a few days – recommends a rental car, as the small island has to offer.
