Johan Lundgren has announced that he will step down as CEO of ΕasyJet at the beginning of 2025, after seven years at the helm of the financial carrier.

However, the position will not be widowed as Lundgren will be succeeded by the airline’s CFO, Kenton Jarvis, who joined the company in February 2021.

Mr Jarvis will continue in his current role during a transition period and a search for his successor will begin soon, according to easyJet.

Mr Lundgren, who is credited with devising and launching easyJet holidays, said: “I congratulate Kenton on his appointment as my successor, he is thoroughly deserving, and I will work closely with him and the entire executive team to achieve this year’s targets and a smooth handover of responsibilities at the end of the year. There are still important things to be achieved over the remainder of the year, but when the time comes I will leave easyJet with a great sense of commitment and pride in the progress that has been made and the potential the company has for the future.”

For his part, easyJet Chairman Sir Stephen Hester, after expressing his regret at Johan Lundgren’s departure, noted: “He has done an excellent job as CEO since December 2017. He has led the company through the enormous challenges during Covid’s tenure, and established a clear strategy and a strong execution plan towards ‘becoming Europe’s most loved airline, with profits for our customers, shareholders and people’. There is good positive momentum and Johan will be with us to close this year, which we hope will be another year of strong progress.”

He added: “We also feel delighted to be able to announce Kenton as our next CEO, which allows for a smooth and seamless transition. The appointment follows a thorough process, with a strong internal and external candidate pool. We are focused on executing the medium-term plan and associated financial targets set earlier this year and we see Kenton as the ideal person to lead our executive team towards this goal. After all, he has impressed since joining easyJet in 2021.”

Kenton Jarvis, for his part, was delighted to be appointed as easyJet’s next CEO and expressed his thanks to the board and his colleagues for their confidence in him.

“I am a great believer in the future of our airline, which is fuelled by the talent and enthusiasm of our frontline staff. I will be immensely proud to lead our teams to realise easyJet’s brilliant potential,” added Mr Jarvis.
