The coveted title of “best cuisine in the world” for the 2024-25 season has been awarded to Greek cuisine, according to the Taste Atlas awards, leaving gastronomic “superpowers” such as Italy, France and Spain, which were the most accepted for the title.
Greek cuisine scored 4.6 percent and came out on top among cuisines from all over the world, with the Dutch (4.7), Germans (4.5) and Americans (4.4) being its biggest fans.

Dishes that have associated their name with Greece, the flavours and aromas of the country, such as gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, village salad, tzatziki, as well as pastitsio, spanakopita, stuffed dishes, played a decisive role in this distinction.
While, the country’s trademark products, such as Naxos graviera, Cretan graviera, Aegina peanuts, as well as pure virgin olive oil and Kalamata olives gave Greece the first place.
After Greece, Italian cuisine comes in second place, followed by Mexican cuisine in third and Spanish cuisine in fourth.
The ranking was determined based on 4,77,287 valid reviews for 15,478 foods in the Taste Atlas database, with the cuisines receiving the highest average score earning the respective positions.
The restaurants that stood out
As for the restaurants and taverns that Taste Atlas distinguished all over Greece, among others, are The Antikristo, in Chania, the tavern Ninos, in Corfu, Margaro, in Piraeus, Peskesi, in Heraklion, Crete, and Bougatsa Panos, in Thessaloniki.
