AIR NEWS REPORTS TOURISM

Just weeks after announcing the largest wide-body aircraft order in Boeing’s history, Qatar Airways is celebrating another huge achievement as it has just been named a winner at this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards, announced on Tuesday at the Paris Air Show.

It is worth noting here that Aegean Airlines was ranked 47th in the world in an admittedly difficult field of competition.

This is the ninth time Qatar Airways has received this distinction in the 26-year history of the awards, known as the Oscars of the aviation world.

“This recognition is much more than an award, it is a celebration of the passion, precision and purpose that define our identity as an airline,” said Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer.

“Holding this title in a highly competitive and ever-evolving global industry reflects the relentless efforts in every area of the business, from the front line to behind the scenes, as the passion and dedication of our people continue to set new standards in aviation.”

Qatar was also named Best Airline in the Middle East, Best Business Class in the World and Best Airline for Business Class Lounge.

The awards came after the airline, founded in 1993, announced it would buy up to 210 wide-body aircraft, including 130 Dreamliners and 30 777-9s from Boeing, in a historic order last month.

Upgraded travel experience

Singapore Airlines, a five-time winner of the World’s Best Airline award, took second place this year, also receiving the World’s Best Cabin Crew award, along with World’s Best First Class and Best Airline in Asia. Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s airline, took third place, with Dubai’s Emirates taking fourth place and Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways fifth. Turkish Airlines took sixth place, while seventh place went to South Korea’s Korean Air, the national carrier of South Korea, and eighth place went to Air France, the national carrier of France. Finally, Japan Airlines took ninth place and China’s Hainan Airlines completed the top ten.

“We welcomed back a large number of past winners and were also pleased to see new faces and airlines represented here today,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax.

“As shown by the fact that many of the airlines that have won in the past have been awarded again, consistent quality is clearly recognised by customers when they vote for these airlines.”

The “completely independent and impartial” awards, which began in 1999, were based on a vote of some 22.3 million customers, with more than 325 airlines participating this year.

Around 500 airline representatives from around the world attended the awards ceremony in the renovated Art Deco terminal of the original Le Bourget airport, located in the centre of the Paris International Air Show, including airline presidents, CEOs and crew members.

AirAsia was named the Best Low Cost Airline in the World for the 16th consecutive year at the Skytrax Awards.

“To win the award for Best Low Cost Airline in the World for 16 consecutive years is simply incredible,” said Tony Fernandes, CEO and co-founder of the airline.

“From the 200,000 flights we flew in our first year to our goal of welcoming our 1 million passengers this year, this journey has been made possible by the unwavering support of our passengers and the tireless dedication of our incredible Allstars.”

Virgin Atlantic won the title of Best Premium Economy Class Airline 2025, while Thailand’s Bangkok Airways was named Best Regional Airline for the ninth consecutive year.

Low cost airline IndiGo won the awards for Best Airline in India/South Asia and Best Low Cost Airline in the region.

Air Canada not only won the award for Best Airline in North America, but also the award for Best Business Class Lounge for the Toronto Pearson Signature Suite.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines was named Best Airline in Africa for the seventh consecutive year, while Turkish Airlines was named Best Airline in Europe, as well as Best Airline for Best Business Class Lounge and Best Airline in Southern Europe.

Saudi Arabia’s national airline, Saudia, formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, has won the award for best airline staff service in the Middle East.
