The 5 main types of travelers who choose the Greek islands this year

What are the travel trends for Greek islands this year? Ferryscanner analyzed this year’s bookings and mapped five key traveler profiles that stand out in the summer of 2025. From independent solo travelers to organized families and those seeking a multi-day break, each category follows its own rhythm, with the common denominator being the choice of Greek islands for summer vacations.

1. Solo Traveler (27.3% of total bookings)

The most independent category of travelers accounts for a significant share of this year’s bookings. Younger travelers (18-30 years old) stand out, as they make up 45.5% of solo bookings, with an average trip duration of 3.5 days. They choose flexibility, economy, and short getaways, following the trend for spontaneous, individual travel.

2. Family (11.7% of total bookings)

Families plan trips with an emphasis on organization and balance between relaxation and practicality. Millennials (31-45 years old) are the dominant age group, with 22.4% of their bookings being for family vacations. The average duration of the trip is 3.9 days.

3. The Weekend Traveler

Those who take advantage of every available opportunity for short getaways. They prefer nearby destinations, easy access, and practical organization. Escapes last 3–4 days, and this category is found in both younger people and those with limited time.

4. The Mature Traveler (45-60 years old)

He approaches the journey with ease and a schedule. 16.6% of bookings in this group are for family trips, and the average vacation length is 4.5 days. These are travelers who choose islands with good infrastructure and prefer stability and organization.

5. Long-stay Traveler (60+)

Travelers over 60 years old choose longer vacations (4.8 days on average), preferring quieter destinations. Solo bookings are limited (12.1%), indicating a preference for traveling with a companion or in an organized group.

Ferryscanner will remain a reliable ally for every type of traveler in 2025. With user-friendly search, complete price transparency, and extensive route coverage, Ferryscanner makes planning a trip simple and enjoyable, whether it’s a short getaway, a family vacation, or a multi-day relaxation in the Greek islands.
