-Blue flag for the 14th year and cleaning of the seabed at Maratha beach by the award-winning hotel for its green initiatives
In perfect balance with its unique natural environment, the Skiathos Palace Hotel dominates Koukounaries, with its management faithfully and uninterruptedly continuing the operation of the iconic property in the philosophy of sustainable tourism development, which it has established as one of its key business objectives.
With absolute commitment to environmental protection – in step with the local community and the authorities of Skiathos island – Skiathos Palace has been voluntarily participating for many years in national and international sustainable tourism development programs, having received all the highest distinctions, awards and certifications.
This year, for the 14th consecutive year, Skiathos Palace, as the manager of the Maratha coast, received the Blue Flag 2024 award, the only one received by private initiative on the island of Skiathos.
The award of the Maratha Coast seal each summer the continuous efforts on the part of the hotel to provide organized services to guests, ensure excellent quality bathing waters and protect the surrounding marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
Skiathos Palace, however, went a step further. It has cleared the seabed at Maratha of trash. In the new initiative of the hotel’s management, the “DEEP BLUE” Diving Centre of Chalkida was a valuable supporter and even pro bono.
Specialized divers, under the supervision of the Skiathos Port Authority, retrieved litter and objects from the seabed of the beach, thus protecting the marine environment and conveying a strong message against pollution and raising public awareness on the issue of marine litter and its environmental impact.
The management of the hotel constantly demonstrates, with more and more actions of respect and protection of the environment in which it takes the lead, the environmental consciousness that permeates the operation of Skiathos Palace.
Besides, it is no coincidence that since 2015 it has been continuously awarded the gold award of the international Travelife program, in which it participates. Long-term participation (since 2010) in the environmental programs Green Key & Blue Flags, under the management and supervision of the organization “Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature”. In addition, it has been implementing a certified Environmental Management System according to the international standard ISO 14001 since 2009.
A number of other integrated actions and programmes for sustainable tourism development are implemented by Skiathos Palace, in the direction of proper management of natural resources and reduction of the environmental footprint.

They are “green” initiatives, with consistency, responsibility and results, for which it invests heavily in material resources and human resources and which characterize its long-standing leadership in the tourism industry.
