United Airlines Launches New Daily Nonstop Seasonal Service from Athens to Chicago O’Hare

United Airlines has launched a new daily nonstop seasonal service between Athens International Airport and its hometown hub at Chicago O’Hare. With the introduction of this new flight, United is increasing flights from Greece by over 30 per cent for 2024.

The launch of the new service from Athens to Chicago O’Hare builds on United’s existing flights from Greece, which started earlier this summer: daily seasonal service from Athens to New York/Newark, commenced 31 March and Washington Dulles, commenced 15 April 2024.

“We are excited to further expand our Europe route network with the introduction of this new flight from Athens to our hometown hub in Chicago,” said Thorsten Lettnin, United’s Director Sales Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Israel. “The over 30 per cent increase in flights is great news for our customers flying from Greece, as it provides even greater travel choice, a direct link to the Chicago metropolitan area, as well as the possibility to connect via our U.S. hubs to over 130 destinations across the Americas.”

“As we have entered a very busy summer season, the announcement of United Airlines launching its daily nonstop seasonal service from Athens to Chicago is a fantastic and exciting development!” said Ioanna Papadopoulou, AIA, Director, Communications & Marketing. “Along with the very successful offering of metropolitan New York and the Capital Washington, the ‘Windy City’ addition enhances our connectivity and provides even more options for overseas passengers with United’s top product. Already since the beginning of the year, the U.S. market demonstrates an impressive growth and is consistently ranking at the top position among our most important and popular markets. We would like to extend our best wishes to our airline partner for a highly successful season ahead and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to remain fully ‘UNITED’ in supporting the airline’s growth plans to and from Athens.”

The new route from Athens to Chicago O’Hare underlines United’s leadership among U.S. airlines as the largest carrier across the Atlantic, flying nonstop from 37 transatlantic destinations for summer 2024, the most in its history and more destinations than all other U.S. carriers combined. United continues to be the only airline to directly connect the U.S. with Dubrovnik, Malaga, Mallorca and Tenerife. The airline’s 2024 summer schedule also includes new services from Barcelona to San Francisco, the resumption of its seasonal Reykjavik-New York/Newark service, as well as additional flights from Rome and Brussels. United has also increased its summer seasonal Malaga-New York/Newark flight to daily service and resumed the service earlier on 3 May 2024.  Additionally, the airline has resumed earlier some of its other most popular seasonal routes from Nice, Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome, Milan and Naples to give customers more time and flexibility to explore destinations across the U.S.
