HCAA: Historic rise in air-passenger traffic, at 11 months, in Greece

According to the HCAA statistics, regarding air traffic in the 11-month period of January-November 2018, there is a historic rise in the country’s air traffic.

In particular, the total number of passengers in the period January-November 2018 reached to 61,281,521, showing a 10.1% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2017, when 55,677,135 passengers moved.

The passengers have now increased by 5,604,386.

It is worth mentioning that the Commander of the HCAA, Mr. Konstantinos Lintzerakos, in a speech at the European Air Transport Conference in early November, had pointed out that the air traffic in our country’s airports is going to exceed 60 million passengers. The total number of flights in Greek airports amounted to 508,270 (of which 193,215 are domestic flights and 315,055 foreign flights), showing a 9.9% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2017, when there were 462,671 flights.

There was a 13.8% increase in the total passenger traffic (domestic – foreign) in November – 2.6 million passengers moved. There was a 17.1% increase in the arrivals of foreign passengers.

According to the statistics of November 2018, the following results come out: 2,585,312 passengers moved in the Greek airports, with an average increase of 13.8%. The total number of flights in Greek airports reached to 24,924, showing a 16% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2017, when 21,488 flights took place.

It is also worth mentioning that foreign passengers arrivals reached to 640,251, showing a 17.1% increase compared to 2017, when there were 546,551 arrivals.

The largest passenger traffic of November 2018 is recorded at the Airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania.

Just to refer that, according to the statistics of the CHAA, the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania showed the highest passenger traffic for November.

The airports of Sitia, Milos and Naxos recorded the highest percentage increase in passengers during the 11-month period of January-November 2018.

The Civil Aviation Authority also reports that, according to the statistics for the 11-month period (January-November ΄18), the airport of Sitia showed the highest increase rate in passenger traffic, with a 97.1% increase (it delivered 60,724 passengers during the 11-month period of ΄18, versus 30,804 passengers in the corresponding period of ΄17).

Milos Airport recorded a 61.5% passenger traffic increase (73,413 passengers versus 45,458 passengers last year).

Naxos airport had  a 54.4% increase in passengers, as it delivered 83,860 passengers during the 11-month period of 2018, compared to 54,318 passengers delivered in 2017.
