Re-opening of London Southern Airport | Launch of 6 new flights

EasyJet has announced it will re-open its Southend base next March and launch six new routes from the southern airport. EasyJet holidays packages will be bookable from tomorrow to Pisa, Gran Canaria, Dalaman, Antalya, Marrakech and Enfidha in Tunisia for travel from 1 May.

The airline used to have a base at Southend, from 2012 until it was forced to close during the pandemic in 2020, and it has already flown over seven million passengers from the airport.

Seats on flights to the six new destinations will have preferential fares, which have already started for Amsterdam, Geneva, Faro, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Paris Charles de Gaulle from Southend. For this summer, it has added more flights from Southend to Paris and Majorca.

Next March, easyJet will base three A320neo aircraft at Southend, so that it can raise the quality of its services and its flights but also so that the capacity of its flights can be more comfortable.

Outgoing CEO Johan Lundgren said the new base will ‘create hundreds of jobs and provide more choice for consumers with new routes and package holidays’.

He added: “Our continued growth and investment in the UK highlights the importance of the market where this year we will operate more flying than ever before with our customers choosing our flights and holidays because of our trusted brand, unrivalled network and great value fares.”
