Rise in UK ferry bookings as Brits holiday close to home

TOURISM WORLD

UK ferry bookings are up by 23% year on year as Brits plan to holiday closer to home.
Popular routes to France, Ireland and Spain all saw a significant increase in bookings during January compared to 2015, according to the latest figures from ferry comparison site, Direct Ferries.
And ferry bookings from travellers in the rest of Europe were up 33% in January 2016 compared to the same month in 2015.
Andrew Crowe, sales and marketing director of Direct Ferries, said: “It is great news that we have witnessed an increase in direct bookings of over 20 per cent at the start of this year, despite general industry figures showing a very slight decrease in UK passenger numbers in 2015.
“It seems that many Brits are planning to stay in Europe in the coming months, rather than travelling further afield.”
