Ryanair doubles SAF deal with Austrian supplier

AIR NEWS WORLD

Ryanair increases the use of sustainable aviation fuels in Europe.
It doubles its supply agreement with Austrian OMV. Six months ago Ryanair concluded an agreement to supply 500 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel. It has just announced that it will receive another 500 tonnes of SAF from OMV in 2024.

The deal will save an additional 1,250 tonnes in CO2 emissions, the airline says, equivalent to around 100 Ryanair flights from Dublin to the Austrian capital Vienna.

Ryanair’s Sustainability Director, Tom Fowler, said: “The company has a responsibility for viability and sustainability: ”SAF plays a key role in our Pathway to Net Zero carbon strategy.”

“We are committed to increasing its use in the coming years – a commitment that this agreement with OMV will help to take further.”

OMV is a key fuel supply partner for Ryanair in Austria, Germany and Romania.

OMV is one of Austria’s largest listed industrial companies with a workforce of more than 22,000 employees.

“We are building a growing business for sustainable aviation fuel to support the industry’s journey towards a more sustainable future,” said Martijn van Koten, OMV EVP of Fuels & Feedstock last year at the launch of the initial supply partnership.
