The 3rd Point Consultation Meeting of the Integrated Spatial Investment Strategy of the Emblematic Routes / Environment and Culture of the Region of Crete was successfully fulfilled on Monday 29 January 2024 in Anogia.

The Ιntegrated Spatial Investments (ISI) is implemented in the framework of the “CRETE” 2021-2027 programme and will be applied in areas of Crete outside the urban environment. These are four sites registered on the UNESCO lists (Psiloritis and Sitia Geoparks, the Man and Biosphere Network sites in the White Mountains and the Asterousia Mountains), as well as the six Minoan palaces proposed for serial inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This meeting concerned the Psiloritis Geopark and the Minoan palace of Zominthos, which is in the process of being integrated. The meeting was attended by the Mayors of Anogia and Mylopotamos, members of the spatial group, local authorities and local bodies, as well as officials of the Region of Crete.

The coordination of the meeting was the General Director of Development Planning of the Region of Crete Chrysa Daskalaki. The Strategy’s researcher Nikos Draconakis presented to the audience the main axes that govern its development. In the discussion that followed, the Mayor of Anogia Socrates Kefalogiannis stressed the need to prioritize support outside urban centers and technical assistance for the maturation of projects, as well as the approach of each municipality to the Integrated Spatial Investments (ISI) as part of a larger whole. Another common thread of all the statements was the promotion of intangible cultural heritage and traditional lifestyles in relation to local entrepreneurship.

Subsequently, until the end of the Consultation on 15 February 2024, spot meetings will take place in the remaining Regional Units of Crete for the full coverage of the integration area. The purpose of these meetings is to exchange views and jointly design the strategy for integrated social, economic and environmental local development.
