United Airlines begins seasonal nonstop service between Athens and New York


United Airlines today began nonstop flights between Athens and its New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport. The seasonal service will operate daily until October 6, 2016 (westbound).

“We are delighted to operate this nonstop service between Athens and New York this summer,” said Robert Humphries, United’s Managing Director Sales for Middle East, Africa and India. “This service offers our customers in Greece not only direct access to New York City but also convenient connections at our Newark Liberty hub to destinations throughout the Americas.”

Papadopoulou added: “The year 2015 was an all-time high record for us, with the highest passenger numbers since our beginning of operations, foreign visitors up by 26%, and the USA market growing at double-digit rates. During the first four months of 2016, growth rates continue to be positive and with the summer season ahead of us, we wish United Airlines every success and pledge to continue supporting its development for further expansion and growth in the Athens market.”

Flight UA125 departs Athens daily at 12:15 p.m., arriving at New York/Newark at 4:15 p.m. the same day. The return flight, UA124, departs New York/Newark daily at 5:50 p.m., arriving in Athens at 10:30 a.m. the following day (all times local).  Flight times are 11 hours westbound and 9 hours 40 minutes eastbound.

The flights are operated by Boeing 767-300 aircraft with a total of 214 seats – 30 flat-bed seats in United BusinessFirst and 184 seats in United Economy, including 49 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.

The Athens flights have been conveniently timed to connect at New York/Newark with an extensive network of service to destinations across the Americas.   United operates flights from New York/Newark to more than 300 destinations throughout North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, including more than 100 served nonstop.

United operates the largest hub in the New York City metropolitan area at Newark Liberty International Airport.  Located just 25 kilometres from downtown Manhattan, the airport offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, with journey time of less than 30 minutes.

Acropolis, Athens-shutterstock_130198181VUnited BusinessFirst offers a superior business-class service.  The BusinessFirst seat reclines 180 degrees into a 1.90-m lie-flat bed and features a personal on-demand entertainment system with a 39-cm touch-screen monitor.  BusinessFirst amenities include laptop power, USB ports, noise-reduction headsets, amenity kits featuring Cowshed-brand skin-care products, duvet-style blankets and a multi-course meal with complimentary wines.

United Economy offers complimentary food, soft drinks, juices, beer and wine, tea, coffee and inflight entertainment. Seats feature an adjustable headrest and a 22.8-cm seat-back monitor delivering a personal on-demand entertainment system.

United Economy Plus offers up to 10 cm of extra legroom.  Located near the front of the Economy cabin, the seats give the added benefit of allowing a swifter exit from the plane upon arrival.

United previously operated nonstop flights between Athens and New York/Newark between 2007 and 2011.
