The fantastic nature of the island, the sights of Rhodes, the history and culture of the island, the monuments, the Medieval Town, the kindness of the inhabitants, the unique Rhodian hospitality and the traditional flavours of the island, composed the wonderful experience lived in Rhodes, which was visited for the first time, from 20-24 April 2024, by content creator & food blogger Anne Maria de Graaf from the blog ANNE TRAVEL FOODIE, which focuses on holidays with a focus on local gastronomy.

The ANNE TRAVEL FOODIE blog has 35.000 unique users and 80.000 page views every month with an interest in travel.

With her blog, Ms. Graaf encourages her followers to travel to Rhodes and taste Rhodian gastronomy, highlighting the island as an ideal destination for its sights, monuments, sea and unique villages, as well as for its rich local gastronomy. The promotion of the “other” Rhodes, the tradition and taste of Rhodian gastronomy, as well as the local products and producers of Rhodes in the Dutch and Belgian markets and beyond, was also the purpose of Anne de Graaf’s trip to the island, which was organized by the GNTO Netherlands Office in cooperation with the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Rhodes.

Mrs Graaf, together with her child and her mother and with Mrs Maria Kritiko as her guide, walked through the alleys of the Medieval City, admired the splendour of the unique World Heritage Monument, was impressed by the Palace of the Grand Master and all its exhibits as well as the Archaeological Museum.

He was impressed by the Kallithea Springs, Anthony Quinn’s harbour, reached Lindos and the Acropolis of Lindos, walked around the city of Rhodes tasting street food, and explored the picturesque streets of Koskinou. He visited the Bee Museum, the Rhodes Farm, the Anastasia Triantafyllou Winery, the Apollona Village – Apolloniatises women’s agrotourism cooperative in Apollona.

He dined at Pizanias restaurant in Medieval Town, at Calypso restaurant in Lindos and at the traditional restaurant Paranga in Apollo village, while he dined at the traditional tavern Karavelladika in Koskinou village. In all the restaurants, apart from tasting, he tried to help in the preparation of some Rhodian dishes.

Mrs. Graaf’s visit and her overall experience of the island was the subject of her meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Culture Georgios Toppos in his office, whom she thanked warmly for the information and organization of her trip, making her work much easier.

Mr. Toppos, in his turn, analyzed the abundance of options offered by Rhodes, from the unique beauty of its nature, monuments and archaeological sites, to the products of the Rhodian land, the flavors, and the unique hospitality of its people!

“The Municipality of Rhodes, having as its primary objective the promotion of the island of Rhodes as an alternative tourist destination, claims a significant share of the international tourist market, in this case the Dutch and Belgian markets, by attracting visitors seeking new alternative travel experiences, including gastronomic experiences, rich flavours and authentic Rhodian cuisine. Moreover, Dutch and Belgian visitors are among the top ten tourists who come to our island every year,” the deputy mayor stressed.

It should be noted that Ms Graaf was accompanied throughout her visit by a highly qualified member of the Tourism Directorate who provided information on sightseeing and other monuments and supplied her with a wealth of printed and digital information material about Rhodes.

Rhodes of history and culture, monuments and natural beauty as well as the alternative theme of Rhodes and especially its rich gastronomic side, a purely Mediterranean cuisine, will be the topics that Anne de Graaf will be promoting in her special features about the island on her blog ANNE TRAVEL FOODIE.

“I will definitely return to Rhodes to see even more sights” said blogger Anne de Graaf, as she said “Rhodes is a tourist destination that offers holidays and a variety of activities for children and adults.
