“Every Russian that visits Greece feels like home,” said Oleg Safonov, head of the Russian Federal Service of Tourism, in a recent show in Sputnik Express, who emphasized that there are efforts to increase the tourist flows from Russia towards Greece.
“Greece is a very important associate for us and the relations between us have a huge, more than a thousand year-long, historical background,” Safonov said. “It is of fundamental importance the fact that we have adopted our Orthodox faith from the Greeks, and thanks to that, Russia has been evolving as a state based on the Orthodox faith for all these years. Therefore, a great tourist wave is going to Greece for religious tourism and places of worship are searched actively. In collaboration with our colleagues in Greece we are working in order to augment the tourist flows and also expand them.”
